FV Pharma holds Media Event

On Friday 26 April, FV Pharma formally announced to Cobourg media that they received their Sale for Medical Purposes licence to sell cannabis under the Cannabis Act (Canada) as previously announced on this site (see link below).  Two of the founders of the parent company FSD Pharma were at the event: Zeeshan Saeed and Anthony Durkacz, as were FV Pharma CEO Dr. Sara May and MP Kim Rudd – and of course Mayor John Henderson and Councillor Adam Bureau.  Media were given a tour of the facility although not the growing area due to the need for special clothing per Health Canada regulations.  There were several areas slated to be used for expansion with one of three large areas currently in the… Read complete articleFV Pharma holds Media Event

Cobourg Cyclists’ Team Enter Race Across America

For 36 years, Race across America (RAAM) has been “challenging ultracyclists from around the globe to push their physical and mental limits to the farthest reaches.”  It’s a 5,000 kilometer nonstop cycling race across America –  starting in Oceanside California and finishing in Annapolis, Maryland.  Contestants will climb 175,000 feet with only 9 days to complete the race!  RAAM is about 30% longer than the Tour de France, but must be completed in half the time. It attracts cyclists from around the globe and is truly the pinnacle of athletic achievement. Province gives Northumberland Two Major Grants

At a single event on Wednesday April 24, M.P.P. David Piccini made two announcements about money to be provided to Northumberland County:  1) $5M will be provided to Northumberland municipalities to allow them to “find smarter ways to deliver services” and 2) $1.8M will be provided to “invest (in) and improve affordable housing”.  Since these grants are unconditional, the Province is trusting Municipalities to use them for the intended purposes. Groundbreaking for the Northumberland Hospice Hub

In 2010, Community Care Northumberland started Hospice Services but it was always based on going to where the patient was – at home, Hospital, retirement home or long term care facility.  But today, work on a live-in Hospice Care centre started.  Money has been raised, a site selected and committees have been formed for organizing, fundraising and designing/managing the building.  This has been reported in earlier articles – see links below – but now an architect has designed a building (perhaps the best in Ontario) and a contract awarded for the work to be done.  Officially called a groundbreaking, all the organizers, major donors and politicians were on hand to thank and be thanked. Council responds to input on Strategic Plan

Tonight’s Committee of the Whole Council meeting was the first chance Council had to respond to comments made by the public on the proposed Strategic Plan.  There was a public meeting on April 7 where a large number of written and verbal comments were made (see link below for report) and tonight the council showed that they listened.  Several Councillors moved amendments and all were passed.  Brian Darling was the first; he pointed to the Strategic Action that said: ”Review the expansion of boat slips into the west harbour recommendation contained in the waterfront master plan” and wanted it removed.  That motion passed.  A short while later, Emily Chorley moved that instead of being simply deleted, the action should be… Read complete articleCouncil responds to input on Strategic Plan

Cobourg’s Cannabis Facility can now Sell Product

After some turmoil with a change of management, Cobourg’s Cannabis factory has now achieved a milestone: they can now sell their product.  FSD Pharma Inc. announced today that its wholly-owned subsidiary FV Pharma Inc. has received its Sale for Medical Purposes licence to sell cannabis under the Cannabis Act (Canada). The licence went into effect on April 18, 2019.  The licence allows the current FSD facility to supply and sell cannabis products. Durham Architecture Students Display ideas for Downtown

Architectural Technology students from Durham College were asked to produce practical designs for potential development locations in Downtown Cobourg.  Their teacher Ali Taileb gave them a choice of one of two locations on Albert Street: either the land adjacent to Rotary Park which is now a parking lot or the land on the South West corner of Albert and Division – now occupied by buildings.  They had to resolve issues that would come up for site plan approval and were briefed on that by Cobourg’s Planning Department.  As a result they worried about issues such as preserving one of the trees, moving buried water mains, parking requirements and more.  They also had to comply with a requirement for a mixed… Read complete articleDurham Architecture Students Display ideas for Downtown

Truly Local Radio gets Federal Grant

MP Kim Rudd was at the local radio station on Tuesday to announce a grant of $24,300 from the Federal Government through the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP).   This will support a program Northumberland 89.7 FM is planning to produce where seniors will tell stories about their memories and local history.  Hopefully they will be about interesting things that most have not heard of.  I suggested an example might be a story by Larry Wilson who was there as a boy in 1951 when a plane landed in the field of his family’s farm – right where Canadian Tire is now.  But there are surely more stories.  The working title of the program is “Stories for the Ages” –… Read complete articleTruly Local Radio gets Federal Grant
