Federal Election Race has Started

Incumbent MP Kim Rudd yesterday announced that she is withdrawing her name from consideration as a Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources.  She wants to focus her energies on her riding and “on the important issues that matter to my constituents”.  The timing is interesting – it was on the day that the federal Appeal Court disallowed Justin Trudeau’s approval of the Trans Mountain Pipeline.  The ramifications of this would no doubt would have kept her very busy and away from the Riding.  But a Federal Election is just over a year away and the Conservatives are gearing up with three candidates indicating they are vying for the nomination.  One candidate is a lawyer from Orono and the… Read complete articleFederal Election Race has Started

Venture 13 Grand Opening

The new centre for innovation and technology entrepreneurs had its grand opening on Thursday.  All councillors were there with Mayor Brocanier acting as MC.  MP Kim Rudd, MPP Lou Rinaldi, Police Chief Kai Liu were there as well as project prime movers CFDC executive director Wendy Curtis and CAO Stephen Peacock.  The idea for the project was first aired at Council in May 2017 but funding from the Federal Government and Fleming College helped get the project going with tenders let in December 2017.  The second floor will be occupied by the Cobourg Police Business Services unit that is planning to expand and will fully fund their portion.  The speeches were kicked off by a video from Hon Navdeep Bains,… Read complete articleVenture 13 Grand Opening

Lawn Bowling Club gets Federal Grant

Today MP Kim Rudd announced that Cobourg’s Lawn Bowling club would be given $22,100 to help pay for some much needed equipment.  The money came from a fund called the “New Horizons for Seniors Program”. Kim said that as well as promoting “positive aging by supporting seniors’ volunteerism and encouraging seniors to play an active role in their communities” it is also “partnering with the community since organizations like this are community”.  The club applied for the grant about a year ago for their “Bowling for Life” project.  According to the club’s web site, it currently has about 100 members aged from 8 to over 90.
