As part of their Strategic Planning Process, Cobourg Police are asking Cobourg Citizens to complete a comprehensive survey – see link below. It’s being done by an outside company (Lansdowne Consulting Group) and you could win a $150 gift card for one of our local Cobourg restaurants. I have already completed the survey myself and it’s quite long. The questions basically ask what you think of their capabilities, attitudes and performance. As their email launching the survey puts it: “The purpose of this consultation is to gather feedback on the delivery of services provided by the Cobourg Police Service and to help us set priorities for the next three years.” You can find the link on their web site and they have a QR code on Facebook – but the link below is easy.
I copied the questions so you can see what it’s about before you do the survey. I have two versions – just the questions (2 pages) and the whole thing (11 pages). It’s clear that it’s best done online although the Police say that printable surveys and large print surveys are available but I think you have to email ([email protected] ) to get them. If you download and print the long version below, then fill it out with a pen, they might accept it if you dropped it off or mailed it to them.
This information will be added to the Cobourg Internet Survey page here. This is currently the only active Cobourg or Northumberland survey.
The survey is open until July 31, 2021.

What are you referencing please?
I took the survey – I hope they make their findings public and I hope it helps them. It would be interesting to know what people’s priorities are. For me it’s drug use prevention and dealing with the opioid crisis here. To me it feels like the only issue but I would like to know what’s on other people’s minds as well.
I do not believe drug use and opioid crises are police issues. They are health and possibly mental health issues and should be dealt with by medical
professionals.
What a gross waste of money. The police should just set their policies and priorities the same way council and the mayor do.
By petitions and phone-bombing campaigns from the Cobourg Taxpayers Association and Facebook polling.
The CTA uses petitions and phone-bombing? How subversive and undemocratic.
Matt, I’m unaware of any CTA “phone bombing” (whatever that actually means) and I don’t believe that the CTA even has a Facebook account. What is your issue with petitions?
It wasn’t an indictment of the CTA, petitions or even Facebook polls, per-se. It was an indictment of politicians who make public policy decisions based solely on them.
Government by loudest, shrillest, most-affected voice is lazy, lousy government.
Organizations like the CTA know that and they take advantage of it. That’s why they can throw their weight around the way they do.
Which politicians have made decisions solely based on CTA presentations?
Matt, I wish that you were correct; Cobourg’s finances would be in better shape! Council chose to ignore our two most recent delegations and do the opposite. They voted to waste over $2M on un-tendered and un-needed replacement water meters. In another bad decision they gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to Lakefront Utilities to the detriment of Cobourg’s electricity users and no benefit to the taxpayers.
Interesting they run a sweat shop called “criminal records checks” that makes millions on the backs of a bunch of part time “female” employees who recently had their hours cut back to circumvent any of them becoming full time. But, have the money to hire to a survey consultant and a full time male CFO. It is all smoke and mirrors.
In hopes that somebody will see this: When using a touchscreen tablet, Q.6 will not accept multiple responses even though instructions say, “…all that apply.” The data from that question will not be accurate.
Should have been caught in testing.
I used a touch screen tablet without any problems.
I appreciated the opportunity to provide feedback. This could have been easily done using Survey Monkey and saved the consulting fees – I know the consultant will slice and dice the data to provide an attractive presentation and recommendations.
In spite of the over the top Covid enforcement that they were obligated to carry-out, Cobourg Police do a very good job and I’m grateful for their service.
“Damned if they do. Damned if they don’t.” I completed the easy Survey that mainly asks for ratings and for one’s opinions. There is no requirement to answer any or all questions; therefore, an opportunity to insert the critical comments that are written below.
Yes very easy the main focus was on personal appearance — they all look like they are ready for a Fashion show
I would like to revise my survey response it won’t let me 1 s yr limit
We the neighbourhood had an incident over the weekend and it took over 4 hrs to respond
we got a call center I think in Collingwood ??? Didn’t have a clue where we were
We received a lead / news on the issue and tried to call the local police station
The recording said closed also if you have no Video or photos of the perpetrator then
Good Luck
If the Chief of Police doesn’t know the job to be done and the Police Services Board is in the same boat (catch law breakers) then perhaps it is time we as a town review what the OPP can offer the Town and at what significant cost savings.
Why does every survey want to do know what the household income is? So that they can market the data?
This is bull shit, are they trying to justify their existence? I hardly ever see them patroing Wilkins Gate at 7 to 8 in the morning. You could meet your quotas buy then and then have coffee on me
keep your gift card and spend the money on buying a Radar Gun for Traffic Control in Cobourg
Now the cops are doing a survey…what next! Just catch the bad guys, the break and enters, the speeders, the no-stoppers, and the drug sellers. Just the basics to be “well done” thanks.
Simply revisit and revert to the fundamentals…To Serve and Protect; and then repeat as required.
The motorcycle and vehicle noise at the marina
Is ridiculous, can the police not enforce noise bylaws ?
