Second Annual Gay Pride Parade

Cobourg’s Gay Community organized a Gay Pride Parade (or march) along King Street today (Saturday June 23).  Ashley Bouman (of the Cobourg Chapter of PFLAG and Pride Northumberland) and Kim McArthur-Jackson (Co-founder of the Cobourg Queer Collective) were pleased with the turnout – about 50 people participated.  Police helped by clearing the roads for the march and DBIA Chair Adam Bureau was supportive and also participated.  As well as four regular Police and one from the Auxiliary Police, five high school students from the Youth in Policing Initiative were also there.  The event started in front of Victoria Hall with some speeches by Ashley, Kim and Adam; they then marched down King to Church and finished at the “Gathering Place” in Victoria Park.

June is Gay Pride month in Cobourg with a Gay Pride flag flying at the Police Station all month (shown at the start of the Video). March organizers have also arranged for a bus to take anyone interested to the Toronto Parade on June 24.  To round out the month, there is a special screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Loft on June 29.  In addition, they will be participating in the Canada Day Parade in Cobourg on July 1.

Thanks for the excellent video John; I missed the parade. Looks like it was a positive, meaningful, mature and optimistic event. Congratulations to Adam Bureau for his involvement and positive support of acceptance, kindness and inclusion in our community.
